U.S. Ambassador on Cyprus: Biden administration commits to bi-social federation solution

“The US recognises the right of the Republic of Cyprus to develop its resources in its Exclusive Economic Zone and considers that the island’s oil and gas resources should be distributed equally to the two communities.

In a greeting at the reception she gave at the American Embassy in Nicosia, on the occasion of the 245th anniversary of the U.S. Independence, Ms. Garber referred to the economic and business ties that connect the U.S. with Cyprus, the cooperation of the U.S. Embassy in Nicosia with the Government and citizens, as well as the Cyprus issue. :

“We strongly support united nations-assisted efforts to continue formal negotiations to resolve the Cyprus issue. In the same spirit of optimism that characterized the Kennedy administration, the Biden administration is committed to supporting a Cypriot-led effort, under the United Nations, to reunite Cyprus as a bi-social bi-community federation. Mr President Biden remains convinced that not only is a solution possible, but that a reunited island will benefit all Cypriots and the wider region,” noted Ms. Garber.
