U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Gilfoil met with Archbishop Nikitas of Thyateira and Great Britain during her visit to Athens. In a social media post, Gilfoil stated she conveyed the United States’ “steadfast commitment to defending religious freedom, as well as our unwavering support for Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I and his spiritual mission.”

She added: “We also discussed the deep bonds of faith that connect the United States with the Greek Orthodox Church.”
