Two wildfires broke out late Saturday afternoon (11 July 2026) near the village of Kampos, on the outskirts of Paramythia in Thesprotia, northwestern Greece. The two separate fire fronts ignited just 20 minutes apart—one in an agricultural-forestry area and the other in a forested zone.

Emergency Response Mobilized

The Hellenic Fire Service responded immediately with significant ground forces to contain the flames before they could escalate uncontrollably. Although both fires were initially developing away from residential areas and critical infrastructure, authorities issued a precautionary evacuation alert at 5:45 p.m. via the national emergency number 112. Residents of the village of Galatas were instructed to relocate temporarily to the nearby settlement of Karioti.

Operational Details

According to the Fire Service’s latest update, 25 firefighters are on site, supported by one infantry unit, seven vehicles, four aircraft, and one helicopter.
