Two Arrests for Fire in Monemvasia: Hot Works Ignited Blaze

Authorities made two arrests on Monday (June 24, 2025) in the Karavostasi Plytra area regarding a fire incident in Monemvasia. According to the Fire Service, the individuals arrested are two foreigners, aged 40 and 60, who were conducting hot works (welding activities on a building), which resulted in the fire. As highlighted by the Fire Service in an official statement, the men were detained during an immediate investigation process conducted by the Firefighting Crime Response Team (K.A.E.E.) in collaboration with investigative officers from the Monemvasia Fire Department. The fire occurred in an agricultural forest area in violation of current legislation near Karavostasi Plytra, within the municipality of Monemvasia, Lakonia. Both men are currently in custody and will be presented to the competent prosecuting authority today.
