The acclaimed Greek production of Twelve Angry Men, translated and directed by Konstantina Nikolaïdi, returns to Athens’ Alkmene Theatre for its 12th consecutive year — a remarkable run defined by sold-out performances and unwavering public acclaim. For over a decade, the theatre has transformed into a courtroom, drawing audiences into an intense moral reckoning that challenges personal conscience and societal bias.
A Stellar Ensemble
This season’s cast features distinguished actors Michalis Markatis, Konstantinos Lagkos, Petros Apostolopoulos, and Raphael Aristotelous — joining a full ensemble of twelve performers portraying jurors locked in deliberation. The production has previously earned the All4Fun Audience Award and recognition from the Panhellenic Union of Translators.
The Story
Set in New York City in 1957, the play follows the trial of a 16-year-old immigrant boy accused of patricide. His fate rests with twelve jurors whose unanimous verdict will determine whether he lives or dies — as conviction carries a mandatory death sentence. Trapped in a sweltering jury room, these men clash, persuade, confront prejudice, and gradually reveal their inner selves — offering twelve distinct, unflinching psychological portraits that mirror the complexities of justice and human judgment.
