For the second day in a row, Turkish military aircraft violated Greek national airspace on Wednesday, 17 June 2026. According to the Hellenic National Defence General Staff (GEETHA), three Turkish aircraft — an ATR-72 maritime patrol aircraft and two unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) — entered Greek airspace seven times across the northeastern, central, and southeastern Aegean Sea.
In addition, the same aircraft committed five violations of air traffic regulations within the Athens Flight Information Region (FIR). The ATR-72 was responsible for one of those regulatory breaches, while the UAVs accounted for four. Of the seven airspace violations, five were carried out by the ATR-72 and two by the UAVs.
The aircraft were identified and intercepted by the Hellenic Air Force in accordance with international rules and longstanding standard operating procedures.
This follows yesterday’s incidents, when four Turkish F-16 fighter jets — two of them armed — conducted six airspace violations over the same region.
