Turkey: US 10% Tariffs Favor Turkish Exports

The main 10% tariff imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump on imports could favor Turkey’s exporters, said Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay on April 5, 2025, in an interview with CNN Turk. Meanwhile, Trump announced higher tariffs on goods imported from the U.S.’s top 57 trading partners, including China, the European Union, Vietnam, and Japan. These tariffs are expected to be implemented starting next week. The decision not to impose high tariffs on Turkey appears to be a current advantage for accessing the U.S. market, Oktay stated on CNN Turk. ‘Tariffs have already been placed on iron, steel, and aluminum for Turkish exports to the U.S. market. When the U.S. imposed similar tariffs on others, it created a balance that was in our favor,’ he added.
