The Turkish government has dismissed the claims in a report adopted by the European Parliament as unfounded. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs criticized the EU Parliament for allegedly providing a platform to terrorist organizations. Specifically, Turkey labeled the references in the report as baseless and accused the EU Parliament of promoting anti-Turkish sentiments through its stance on Turkey’s political dynamics, foreign policy, and President Erdoğan’s visit to Northern Cyprus. According to an official statement from the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs: “The 2023-2024 report on Turkey, adopted today (May 7) by the European Parliament, contains distorted, prejudiced, and unfounded allegations against Turkey. We reject the unsubstantiated assessments of an institution that provides propaganda space to terrorist organizations and groups whose raison d’être is fostering anti-Turkish sentiment. In the upcoming period, we expect the EU Parliament to fulfill its responsibilities to ensure that our relations with the EU, including our accession process, continue based on mutual benefit.”
