Turkey: Four dead and one missing from floods

Four people were killed in flash floods in the Turkish Black Sea region of Kastamonu and one person is missing, the Disaster and Emergency Management Directorate (AFAD) announced today.

AFAD said residents were being evacuated by helicopter from the affected areas, adding that roads had been closed because bridges had collapsed or been damaged.

In television images, the floodwaters appear to have swept away dozens of cars and piles of debris on the streets.

Heavy rains in the area will be reduced tomorrow, Friday, according to the announcements of the meteorological service, AFAD announced.
