Turkey declares ready for summit between Russia and Ukraine

She is ready to host a summit between Russia and Ukraine, the Turkish president said, as he welcomed his Ukrainian counterpart Volontimir Zelenski to Istanbul. “We are ready to host a peace summit in which Russia will participate,” Recep Tayyip Erdogan said addressing journalists and having Volontimir Zelenski next to him. Erdogan reiterated his “support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the strategic ally (his), Ukraine”. “By continuing our solidarity with Ukraine, we will continue to work in favour of ending the war and in favour of a just peace after negotiation,” he said. With regard to a new mechanism to guarantee the safety of commercial transport in the Black Sea, the Turkish President confirmed his “intention to reach an agreement between the sides”, stating ready to offer his help. “We have the same position as regards food security, prisoner exchanges and maritime guarantees: we need to ensure them,” he added. “We don’t lose hope! ‘ Erdogan also said Turkey would contribute significantly to rebuilding Ukraine once the war is over. Since the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Erdogan has been offered many times as a mediator in order to find a peaceful solution to the conflict.
