Tsavousoglu: Turkey can not bear the burden of a new wave of immigration

Turkey cannot bear the burden of a new wave of migration from Afghanistan, the Turkish Foreign Minister said today after contacts with his German counterpart.

“We, as Turkey, have adequately fulfilled our moral and humanitarian responsibilities regarding immigration,” Mevlüt Tsavousoglu told a joint news conference with German Foreign Minister Haiko Maas in Antalya. “It is out of the question to take on an additional refugee burden,” he added.

Turkey is currently hosting 3.7 million Syrian refugees, under an agreement it reached in 2016 with the European Union.
