Trump: US Interest Rates Should Be At Least Two to Three Points Lower

US interest rates should have been at least two to three percentage points lower, President Donald Trump stated on June 24, 2025, ahead of Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell’s testimony before Congress. “They should have been at least two to three points lower… if things later change for the worse, they raise the rate,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social, the social media platform he owns. “Powell will be testifying today before Congress to explain, among other things, why he refuses to lower the rate,” Trump added. Last week, the Fed kept rates steady in the range of 4.25%–4.50% and predicted two cuts by the end of 2025. However, Powell expects significant inflation in the future as consumers pay more for goods due to planned import tariffs from the Trump administration. Trump’s comments on interest rates came just hours after announcing a ceasefire between Israel and Iran.
