In a phone call with Benjamin Netanyahu today (April 22, 2025), U.S. President Donald Trump declared that they share the same stance on all issues. Trump announced he had spoken with the Israeli Prime Minister regarding trade matters and Iran, stating they are aligned in their approach. The conversation covered various topics such as trade and Iran, Trump noted in a post on Truth Social, adding that the call went very well. Regarding trade, Netanyahu pledged during his visit to the White House on April 7 to eliminate Israel’s trade surplus with the U.S., hoping to avoid tariffs threatened by Trump against U.S. trade partners. On Iran, Washington and Tehran, adversaries since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, have restarted talks concerning Iran’s nuclear program. Direct negotiations initially took place in Oman and continued in Rome, with further discussions expected this week. Yesterday, Trump told reporters that the U.S. had experienced ‘very good meetings’ with Iranian officials. Meanwhile, Tehran accused Israel of attempting to undermine these talks with Washington. In an April 17 report, the New York Times revealed that Trump rejected an Israeli plan for airstrikes against Iranian nuclear sites, instead opting for negotiations with Tehran. Netanyahu warned that Israel would never allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons, even if Washington continues its diplomatic efforts.
