According to a report by the Washington Post, the Trump administration is planning major cuts to the CIA and other intelligence services. The CIA intends to cut 1,200 jobs, while thousands more could be lost from other agencies within the U.S. intelligence community, as per Donald Trump’s plan revealed in the newspaper owned by Jeff Bezos. Since taking office on January 20th, Trump, along with his ally Elon Musk, has pursued a cost-cutting program across federal institutions, resulting in over 200,000 federal employees being laid off or resigning. This announcement comes shortly after the White House declared that Trump aims to focus the 2026 U.S. budget on domestic security and defense. The first draft of this budget proposal includes a 13% increase for defense and a 65% rise for homeland security, but also slashes non-military federal spending by 22%, amounting to $163 billion. Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer criticized the move, stating that it represents an all-out attack on hardworking Americans. While undermining health programs and targeting education initiatives relied upon by families, it funds tax breaks for billionaires and large corporations. The proposed budget emphasizes border security to fund mass deportations and end privileges given to undocumented immigrants. A fuller version will soon be presented to Congress, targeting several ‘woke’ programs.
