During his speech commemorating Women’s History Month, Donald Trump reiterated his views on gender and participation in sports. The U.S. President expressed that there are only two genders and that regardless of medical interventions or plastic surgeries, one cannot become a ‘real woman.’ Trump’s statement sparked reactions as it impacts how transgender individuals are treated in sports.
‘For four years, we had an administration trying to destroy the entire concept of femininity and replace it with a radical ideology about gender… They destroyed women’s spaces and even tried to replace the term “mother” with “birthing person”… What is going on with this? And then they wonder why they lost?’, Trump stated.
He continued: ‘I saw a Democratic congressman today arguing on TV that men should play in women’s sports. He was ranting like crazy, and I thought, “he’s going to lose.” Under the Trump administration, we end the Marxist war against women – and there was such a war against them – and protect women’s rights while standing by American mothers and daughters.’
Referring again to sports and allowing transgender individuals to compete in women’s events, Trump said: ‘There are two genders. Agree with me? Ninety-eight percent do. Let the other 2% fight for their argument. No matter how many surgeries someone undergoes, no matter how much plastic surgery, they will never become a woman. That’s why I proudly signed the executive order banning men from competing in women’s sports.’
Continuing, the U.S. President made a statement about autism in children, saying: ‘Back in the day, it was 1 in 26,000 children with autism. Now it’s 1 in 26. Something is happening out there, and we need to find out. And that’s what Kennedy will do,’ he added.
During his speech, he mentioned upcoming announcements regarding tariffs on the automotive industry, emphasizing that companies setting up factories in the U.S. would be exempt from these tariffs.
In parallel, Trump has taken further actions affecting transgender rights. In November 2024, he signed an executive order banning transgender individuals from serving in the U.S. Armed Forces, citing excessive medical care and disruptions caused. This decision will lead to the discharge of approximately 15,000 transgender individuals, raising concerns about operational readiness.
In January 2025, Trump announced plans to prevent transgender women from participating in female athletic organizations upon his return to the White House. These actions are part of a broader political framework impacting transgender lives, including restrictions in education and healthcare. Such measures have drawn strong reactions from human rights organizations, which view Trump’s policies as discriminatory, affecting the mental health of transgender individuals and potentially harming their social integration. The removal of transgender individuals from the military also raises concerns about potential skill shortages and operational cohesion within the armed forces.
