The U.S. could be supplied with icebreakers as requested by Finland’s President, Sauli Niinistö, who met with Trump at his private residence in Mar-a-Lago, Florida, today (March 29, 2025). Donald Trump discussed with Sauli Niinistö the strengthening of bilateral cooperation between the U.S. and Finland, including the potential purchase of icebreaker ships by Washington. In a post on Truth Social, Trump mentioned that he “played a round of golf” with Niinistö. “President Niinistö and I look forward to enhancing the partnership between the U.S. and Finland, which includes the purchase and development of a significant number of icebreakers that the U.S. greatly needs for peace and international security of our nations and the world,” Trump stated. Niinistö’s office clarified in its announcement that the visit, which was not previously announced, was of a “private nature.” It added that the two presidents discussed bilateral relations and foreign policy issues, particularly those concerning Ukraine.
