President Trump stated that it would be difficult for him to ask Israel to halt its airstrikes on Iran, even if he seeks a diplomatic resolution to the conflict. “I think it’s very hard to make that request when someone is winning,” Trump told reporters in New Jersey, referring to Israel and Iran, just before attending a fundraising event at his golf course. “It’s a bit harder to do than if someone was losing. But we’re ready, willing, and able. And we’ve spoken with Iran and we’ll see what happens,” said Donald Trump. Trump reiterated later that it would be challenging given Israel’s military successes so far. When asked about evidence of Iran building a nuclear weapon, Trump dismissed intelligence reports stating otherwise. “When you look at it, Israel is doing well in terms of the war,” he said. “I think you’d say Iran is not doing as well, which makes it a little harder to stop.” Trump also rejected European diplomatic efforts involving Iran, saying they haven’t helped end the conflict. “They didn’t help. Iran doesn’t want to talk to Europe. They want to talk to us. Europe won’t be able to help with this issue,” he concluded.
