Former U.S. President Donald Trump claimed during a media briefing in Cincinnati on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, that American forces have “neutralized” Iran’s leadership “twice” and destroyed the Iranian naval fleet — including 28 mine-laying vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.

‘A Trip, Not a War’ — But for Whom?

Describing the ongoing conflict as a “trip,” Trump said it is progressing ahead of schedule and is “easier than we thought.” When asked by a journalist whether the situation constitutes war or a military operation, he replied, “Both.”

“It’s a trip that keeps us away from war… For them, it’s war. For us, it turned out to be easier than we thought,” he said.

Oil Prices and Markets

Trump characterized the recent rise in oil prices as a “wartime issue,” but predicted a swift decline: “Oil prices will fall soon — the increase is temporary.” He also urged financial markets to “return to normal” in the near term.

His remarks echo earlier comments to Axios, where he stated the Iran conflict would end shortly, adding, “There’s nothing left to hit.”
