Trump Furious at EU Over Fines on U.S. Tech Giants

Donald Trump has launched a sharp verbal attack against the European Union, accusing it of unfairly targeting major American companies with massive fines. In a post on Truth Social, the former U.S. president condemned the EU’s regulatory actions as “illegal” and “deeply biased,” claiming they systematically harm American interests.

“Looting” American Companies

Trump cited multi-billion-dollar penalties imposed on U.S. tech firms—including $15 billion on Apple, $3 billion on Meta, and $2.5 billion on Amazon—as evidence of what he called the “looting” of American businesses and taxpayers. He dismissed the justifications for these fines as baseless and accused the EU of escalating such measures during President Joe Biden’s first year in office.

Article 301 Investigation Announced

Trump announced that his administration would immediately launch an investigation under Section 301 of U.S. trade law to examine the EU’s practices toward American companies. The probe aims to identify what Trump labeled “unfair trade practices” harming U.S. interests—and could pave the way for retaliatory tariffs on European goods.

“The U.S. Is Not Europe’s Banker”

In a pointed warning, Trump declared: “The United States is not Europe’s banker,” signaling a potential escalation in transatlantic trade tensions. He vowed to fully overturn the EU-imposed fines and warned that the bloc would pay a “very heavy price” for what he described as illegal and deeply unethical conduct—behavior he said he had repeatedly cautioned against.

The post concluded with a firm statement: “Sanctions will be fully reversed, and significant tariffs are expected to be imposed on the European Union as soon as possible.”
