Trump, Erdogan, Assad, and bin Salman Hold Emergency Video Conference After Syria Sanctions Lift

Just hours after the lifting of American sanctions against Syria, an emergency video conference took place on Wednesday morning (14.05.2025). According to the Anadolu Agency, the conference included U.S. President Donald Trump, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Syrian President Ahmed al-Saraa (Assad), and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. During the conference, President Erdogan stated that Trump’s decision to lift sanctions against Syria was historic and that Turkey would continue supporting Damascus in its fight against terrorist organizations like ISIS. Erdogan expressed his belief that the U.S.’s move could set a precedent for other countries with sanctions against Syria. He also emphasized Turkey’s ongoing efforts to de-escalate violence in Gaza and called for an end to the humanitarian tragedy there. Trump unexpectedly announced the decision to lift sanctions against the Syrian government yesterday.
