Trump Ends Visas for Foreign Harvard Students and Threatens Columbia Funding

The ‘war’ between the American president and major U.S. universities is escalating. Donald Trump announced on Wednesday (04.06.25) that visas will no longer be issued to foreign students attending Harvard University, marking a new escalation in his conflict with prominent institutions of higher education accused of promoting extreme progressive ideas or antisemitism. The Republican leader stated, “I have concluded it is necessary to restrict entry of foreigners coming to the U.S. exclusively or largely to participate in Harvard programs.” Additionally, the administration threatens to revoke Columbia University’s accreditation, which would result in losing all federal funding. Education Secretary Linda McMahon accused Columbia of failing to protect Jewish students despite requests, questioning its official accreditation. If accreditation is revoked, Columbia would lose all federal funding and grants. Earlier in March, the Trump administration suspended $400 million in federal funds, including $250 million intended for medical schools, destined for Columbia University in New York. The university has since announced implementing drastic reforms required by the Trump administration to regain this funding.
