Donald Trump’s visit to China concluded with the U.S. president claiming he had “closed” massive trade deals with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping — a meeting that also touched on regional security issues, including the situation in Iran.

Assurances on Military Support and Strait of Hormuz

According to an interview Trump gave to Fox News, Xi Jinping assured him that China would not supply military equipment to Iran. Trump emphasized this point strongly: “He said they won’t provide military hardware… He confirmed it emphatically.”

The Chinese leader also expressed support for keeping the Strait of Hormuz open — a critical global oil shipping route. “He said he wants to see the Strait of Hormuz open,” Trump noted, adding that Xi told him, “If I can offer any assistance, I’d be happy to help.”

Possible Sanctions on Chinese Companies

Despite these diplomatic assurances, Trump indicated he has not ruled out imposing sanctions on Chinese companies purchasing Iranian oil. “We discussed it, and I’ll make a decision in the coming days,” he said.

U.S. Energy and Agricultural Exports to China

Earlier in the visit, Trump highlighted Beijing’s intention to increase purchases of U.S. energy and agricultural products — though he did not specify volumes. “They want to buy oil from the United States,” he said, noting that the idea was well received by Xi Jinping.

Trump also stated that China plans to significantly increase imports of American agricultural goods — particularly soybeans — calling the prospect “very pleasing” to his counterpart.
