U.S. President Donald Trump declared his intention to purchase and place the Gaza Strip under American ownership, suggesting parts of this Palestinian area could be given to other Middle Eastern states for reconstruction efforts. Trump made these statements to reporters aboard Air Force One while flying to New Orleans for the Super Bowl. Earlier, he announced that on Monday (10/2/25), he would impose a 25% tariff on all steel and aluminum imports into the U.S. Speaking further to journalists, Trump emphasized that mutual tariffs would be announced on Tuesday or Wednesday, coming into effect almost immediately. All this happened while flying over what Trump renamed as the ‘Gulf of America’ instead of the Gulf of Mexico. During his press conference inside Air Force One, the U.S. president also signed the decision to rename the gulf.
