Trump: “China Has a Ballroom—So Should the U.S.”

Donald Trump concluded his historic and highly symbolic visit to China on Friday, May 15, 2026 — a trip marked by repeated expressions of admiration for both the country and its leader, President Xi Jinping.

“A Ballroom for the U.S.”

In a recent post on Truth Social, Trump highlighted that even China — the United States’ largest economic, political, and military rival — has a formal ballroom, and argued that the U.S. should have one too. “China has a Ballroom, and so should the U.S.A.! It’s under construction, ahead of schedule, and will be the finest facility of its kind anywhere in the U.S.A.,” he wrote.

Accompanying the post was a photo of Trump walking alongside Xi Jinping across the red carpet outside Beijing’s Great Hall of the People.

To avoid ambiguity, Trump added: “The man I’m walking with is President Xi of China — one of the World’s Great Leaders! President DONALD J. TRUMP.”

Location and Timeline

The new ballroom is being built on the site of the former East Wing of the White House, which was demolished earlier this year. According to Trump’s announcement, the facility is scheduled to open in September 2028 — just weeks before the U.S. presidential election.
