Armed forces announced at 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday (June 24, 2025) that missile launches were detected from Iran towards Israel. Sirens went off in several areas across Israel after recognizing missiles fired by Iran. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) stated that the Israeli Air Force (IAF) was attempting to intercept and strike where necessary to eliminate the threat. Amidst these developments, Donald Trump declared via social media that Israel and Iran had agreed on a full and total ceasefire starting around 7 a.m. (Greek time), bringing an ‘official end’ to the 12-day conflict. Later, Trump reiterated this during an NBC interview and a new post on Truth Social, emphasizing mutual peace requests from both nations, labeling them as winners with much to gain from the ceasefire. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed the ceasefire post-4 p.m., thanking Iran’s armed forces for their efforts. High-level negotiations involved Vice President Kamala Harris, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff, with direct contact between U.S. officials and Iranian authorities. Trump expressed optimism about the indefinite duration of the ceasefire, referring to it as the ’12-Day War,’ which could have devastated the Middle East if prolonged. Reuters confirmed an Iranian official’s statement about agreeing to the ceasefire, mediated by Qatar.
