Following the decision by the U.S. government to halt the delivery of certain but critical ammunition and weapons to Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is reportedly ‘backed into a corner,’ especially as Russian forces intensify their missile attacks. In light of this, former U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy are set to hold a crucial phone conversation on Friday, July 4, 2025, according to a report by the Financial Times released on Thursday (03.07.2025). The discussion will reportedly include the possibility of future arms sales to Ukraine, citing sources familiar with the matter. Meanwhile, the timing of the call could change, the publication added.
The suspension of deliveries comes amid reports that U.S. defense stockpiles have reached critically low levels, according to sources speaking to Reuters. In response, Ukraine summoned the acting U.S. ambassador to its Foreign Ministry to stress the importance of continued military support from Washington and warn that halting aid would weaken Ukraine’s ability to defend itself against escalating Russian air strikes and advancing troops.
The Pentagon’s decision has already halted shipments of defensive anti-aircraft Patriot missiles, which are essential for protecting Ukrainian cities and energy infrastructure from Russian missile attacks, Reuters reported on Wednesday. However, the news agency was unable to independently verify the reliability of the information, and the White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment. According to Politico and other U.S. media outlets, the halt affects Patriot air defense systems, precision artillery systems, and Hellfire missiles.
This development has caused concern among Ukrainian military officials. Facing a better-equipped and larger Russian army, one military source stated, “We will struggle without American ammunition.” Residents of Kyiv expressed outrage, with some claiming, “Ukraine has been handed over to Putin,” while others said, “If they don’t support us, it’s like siding with evil—and that is unacceptable.”
