Within the limits of Regional Unity of Trikala, south of the national road that connects the city of Trikala, the Gate and the…
Fir with the Αθαμανικά mountains (Tzoumerka) and, further, the town of Arta, are the three settlements of Palaiokaria (top, Bottom and Middle) and the homonymous ravine with the arched bridge and the double waterfall.
In the beautiful valley of the Palaiokaria (Γκρόπας), with dense riverine forest and the remarkable flora, flowing crystal clear waters of the small river Παλαιοκαρίτη (Παλαιοκαρυώτη), which stems from the neck of the Γκρόπας and flows into the river Portaikos.
The arch bridge stands on a rocky narrowing, at a distance of 500 m. from the Bottom Palaiokaria. Two dams were constructed in the 1970s, the lowest in front and highest behind the bridge, lay two man-made waterfalls on a small scale, which give a special color to the specified location.
The traditional fulling mill (ντριστέλα) of Palaiokaria, the wonderful woods of Katouna, the awe-inspiring peaks Γκρόπα (stone path connects with the Upper Palaiokaria) and Karava are additional poles of attraction for visitors to this beautiful region of Trikala.
