On June 30, the trial will commence for a 46-year-old parliamentary police officer accused of domestic violence against his 35-year-old wife, also a police officer. The couple’s case was brought to light when the wife filed a complaint at the Kallithea police station on November 18. In her initial report, the 35-year-old detailed incidents of domestic abuse she endured from her husband.

She explained that she had previously filed charges in February 2024 but withdrew them after her husband promised to change his behavior. However, the abuse continued. She described being choked, slapped, and verbally threatened with severe physical harm. One incident involved being struck with slippers in the bathroom, resulting in broken glasses. Another episode saw her being continuously slapped, having slippers thrown at her face, and her head repeatedly slammed into furniture.

The case shocked the nation as it emerged that the officer allegedly abused not only his wife but their children as well. Following the allegations, the 46-year-old was placed under preventive detention, while his wife, after retracting false accusations regarding child molestation, was released under restrictive conditions. Meanwhile, the children have been removed from the family home and placed in care facilities, with no contact allowed with either parent.
