Tragic Death of Brazilian Tourist Trapped in Active Volcano Crater in Indonesia

A harrowing and tragic end met a Brazilian tourist who fell into an active volcano crater during a hike in Indonesia. The 26-year-old journalist, Juliana Marins, was enjoying a trek with friends on Mount Rinjani, a popular Southeast Asian tourist attraction, when she slipped from a cliff approximately 150 meters high on Saturday morning. By Monday, she had descended to a depth of over 480 meters. The area proved perilous, with Marins trapped without access to water, food, or shelter, further complicated by the lack of mobile phone signal preventing direct communication with emergency teams. Rescue teams heard her cries for help and located her alive using drone surveillance inside the crater. However, upon arrival, they were unable to reach her due to dense fog and adverse weather conditions. Additionally, the soft sand where she was trapped made rescue efforts with ropes extremely challenging. After four days battling harsh weather and poor visibility, Indonesian Search and Rescue teams found the body of the Brazilian tourist, as announced by the Brazilian government. It remains unclear exactly when Marins passed away or if the rescuers managed to recover her body.
