The local community in Magnesia is deeply shocked by the tragedy that unfolded on Good Thursday afternoon (April 17, 2025), where a 25-year-old lost her life, and her parents were hospitalized with injuries. The accident occurred around 5:00 PM near the junction of Mega Monastiri on the route towards Thessaloniki. The car carrying the three-member family veered off course under unknown circumstances, crashing violently into the highway’s barrier before flipping over. The young woman, seated in the back, was reportedly ejected from the vehicle and landed forcefully on the asphalt, suffering fatal injuries. The family had started their journey from Athens, heading to Northern Greece for Easter holidays. Coincidentally, an ambulance from the Volos EKAB, transporting a patient to Larissa, happened to be passing by at the time of the accident. The rescuers immediately stopped to provide first aid, but unfortunately, it was too late for the young woman. Additional ambulances, firefighters, and traffic authorities soon arrived at the scene, successfully extracting the parents—aged 60 and 55—from the wreckage. Both injured parties were transported to Volos Hospital, where their conditions are stable. An investigation into the causes of the accident is ongoing, with more details expected as the parents’ condition improves and they can give statements.
