A harrowing tragedy unfolded in Seoul, the capital of South Korea, when a massive sinkhole suddenly formed on the road, tragically claiming the life of an unlucky motorcyclist. The unbelievable accident involving the 30-year-old motorcycle rider occurred in the Gangdong district of South Korea on Monday. So far, the reasons behind the catastrophic collapse of the road remain unclear. Documented videos that have surfaced are causing widespread alarm. In one of these videos, the motorcyclist is seen moving carefree along the road when suddenly a massive 20-meter deep and wide sinkhole opens up. The car in front of the motorcycle barely manages to avoid falling in, but unfortunately, it was too late for the 30-year-old, according to BBC reports. Rescue efforts continued into Tuesday to locate the motorcyclist who fell into the massive sinkhole in Seoul’s Gangdong-gu district, more than 12 hours after the incident, authorities said. The man’s helmet was found Tuesday morning, 50 meters away from where he fell with his motorcycle. Additionally, a car driver was injured due to the collapse. Authorities in Gangdong revealed that approximately 2,000 tons of soil and water are inside the sinkhole. A recent report disclosed that in the Seoul municipality, there have been 223 such collapses mainly due to poor maintenance of old or damaged pipelines or accidents from excavations.
