Tragedy in Turkey: Eight Dead and 20 Injured in Chain Collision Near Çanakkale

A severe road accident occurred on the Çanakkale–Ezine highway, where a passenger bus collided with a truck loaded with timber and a private vehicle. Immediately after the fatal chain collision, police, gendarmerie, firefighters, and medical teams rushed to the scene to assist the injured and restore traffic flow. At least eight people lost their lives, while another 20 were injured. Governor of Çanakkale, Ömer Toraman, speaking to reporters at the accident site, stated that the crash happened near Ezine due to the truck overturning and crossing into oncoming traffic lanes, dragging the bus and car along with it. Despite immediate efforts by medical services, three more victims succumbed to their injuries at the hospital, bringing the death toll to eight. Governor Toraman added that the remaining injured are receiving necessary medical care, either as inpatients or outpatients, and expressed condolences to the families of the victims. Judicial authorities have initiated an official investigation into the causes of the accident, assigning two prosecutors to handle the case. Political leaders, including President of the Grand National Assembly Numan Kurtulmus and Deputy Prime Minister Cevdet Yilmaz, issued condolence messages for the victims.
