Traffic Chaos in Athens: Kilometer-Long Queues on Major Roads

Heavy traffic congestion hit Athens this morning (05.02.2026), with drivers crawling at very low speeds on Kifissos Avenue, key sections of Attiki Odos, Kifisias Avenue, and Piraeus Port. For yet another morning, road conditions in the capital resembled a nightmare. Vehicles are fully halted in both directions of Kifissos starting from Aigaleo. On Kifisias Avenue, major bottlenecks occur in both directions near Psychiko. On Mesogeion Avenue, traffic is completely stalled from Alimos to Agia Paraskevi. Roads around central Athens and Piraeus port—including the SEF area—are also severely congested. On Attiki Odos, delays reach up to 20 minutes: 5–10 minutes toward Lamia exit and from Plakentias to Kifisias; 15–20 minutes toward the airport from Dimokratias to Kifisias and at the Lamia exit. Traffic is also red-alert on Athinon Avenue near Chaidari and partially on Poseidonos Avenue.
