Toyota: Greek company’s World First Sales Effect

What is happening with Greece has no precedent. Having the sales figures of 2024, the Japanese brand achieved a historical record in market share, with 17.4% and 25,626 vehicles, that is +39% against 2023! CORVERSE The issue, however, is not that, but the fact that since 2000 Toyota has come first in sales 21 years! Only Hyundai (2000 and 2005) and Opel (2001 and 2012), were able to dethron it. Of course, in Europe too Toyota year after year goes from record to record, and is in the top sales positions, but in Greece what happens is unique. Some Toyota models may have been waiting over a year, before traditions were normalized, but the reliability of the signal, above all, is what plays a role. CORVERSE For older people, who know situations, there are explanations. Toyota with the agricultural products we used to talk about or pick-up, which we’ve been talking about lately, won much of the farmers, like the Roma, who told me that women were waiting outside Toyota’s stores to open in the morning and pay the installment. Because the car was their job, the means of transport or their home, because that’s what we’ve seen. At the same time, Takis Athanasopoulos, when head of the brand and then No.2 in Europe, created such a network of shops throughout the country and smaller cities, caught the tightness of the Greek, resulting in Toyota reaching a peak and not falling from it. In 2024, a landmark year for Toyota in Greece, the brand sold a total of 25,626 vehicles, of which 23,521 passengers, showing an impressive 43% increase compared to the previous year. Toyota was first in retail (direct sales to individuals) with 23.3% market share and first in leases with 12.3%. Toyota Yaris Cross was the car that dominated not only in the B-SUV category, but throughout the market. It was the first-selling model, followed by Toyota Yaris. Toyota C-HR was first in the C-SUV category, and throughout the small and medium-sized category and at the same time fourth throughout the market, while Toyota Hilux was first in the pick-up category, but we must note that Nissan Navara no longer exists in the market that was a very popular car. I note that Toyota has models with the 5th generation Full Hybrid systems, models with 3rd generation plug-in hybrid (PHEV) system, purely electric and 2nd generation hydrogen cell vehicles (FCEV), which are to come to Greece in 2025, as well as 3 more new models. In addition, there is a Retail Concept that has already been implemented in 19 exhibitions across Greece, while the entire authorized network of merchants will be upgraded by the end of 2025. Toyota models with hybrid or electric battery are covered with a guarantee of up to 11 years or 1,000,000 km.
