While the forest fire itself is now under control, flames continue to rage at two industrial facilities in the area.

Orfeas hosts several industrial units, including plants for processing lubricants, petroleum products, textiles, clothing, and a large-scale plastic recycling facility. According to Simos Daniilidis, Mayor of Neapoli-Sykies, multiple explosions were heard overnight, underscoring the scale of destruction.
Officials Sound Alarm
The mayor described the smoke cloud as deeply alarming, warning it likely contains dangerous substances — including dioxins and other airborne toxins. He called for urgent intervention by environmental and health experts to issue clear public safety guidance.
He advised anyone who must go outdoors to wear high-filtration masks and confirmed that the noxious atmosphere has affected not only western Thessaloniki but also the city centre, the White Tower, and Kalamaria.
