Today’s Weather: Strong Rainfall, Thunderstorms, Temperature Drop, and African Dust

Unstable weather is forecasted for today, Saturday (17.05.25), across most regions of the country, characterized by strong thunderstorms, a drop in temperature, and African dust. According to the National Meteorological Service (EMY) forecast, there will be rainfall and thunderstorms, some of which may be strong in the northern areas during the morning over Eastern Macedonia, Thrace, and the islands of the eastern Aegean. The rest of the country will see scattered clouds with occasional showers mainly in the afternoon in inland areas. Transport of African dust is expected towards the south. Winds will blow from westerly directions at 3 to 5 Beaufort, locally reaching up to 6 Beaufort in the seas. Temperatures will slightly decrease in the south and slightly rise in the north, ranging from 22-23°C in the north, 22-24°C in other areas, and locally up to 25°C in inland areas and Crete. Specific forecasts include light cloudiness for Attica, winds from westerly directions at 3-5 Beaufort, and temperatures between 12-24°C. In Thessaloniki, periods of increased cloudiness are expected with northerly winds gradually weakening, and temperatures ranging from 13-22°C. Eastern Macedonia and Thrace will experience showers and thunderstorms in the morning improving by evening, while other areas may see temporary showers in the afternoon. Ionian Islands, Epirus, western Sterea, and western Peloponnese will have scattered clouds with possible showers in the afternoon. Eastern Sterea, Evia, and eastern Peloponnese will see similar conditions with stronger winds in the south. Cyclades and Crete will have sparse clouds with weak local showers, especially in Crete. The eastern Aegean and Dodecanese islands will experience showers and thunderstorms, particularly around Lemnos in the morning, with gradual improvement by the afternoon.
