Today’s Weather: Heatwave with Temperatures Up to 30°C – African Dust and Strong Winds

This Saturday, March 15th, is forecasted to be unusually warm for the season across Greece. Strong southerly winds are expected to bring high temperatures ranging from 25°C to 30°C in some areas. According to the National Meteorological Service (EMY), the weather will generally be clear with scattered clouds that may thicken in central and northern regions. Visibility might be locally restricted during the morning hours. Conditions favor the transport of African dust across the country. Winds will blow from the south-southeast at 4-6 Beaufort, increasing to 6-7 Beaufort in the Ionian Sea, with gusts reaching up to 8 Beaufort in certain areas early in the afternoon. Temperatures are set to rise nationwide, with most areas experiencing highs between 25°C and 26°C, while northern Crete could see temperatures as high as 28°C to 30°C. In Attica, the weather will remain mostly clear with light cloud cover appearing late in the afternoon. Winds will be southerly at 3-5 Beaufort, with temperatures ranging from 14°C to 26°C. Thessaloniki will also enjoy a clear day with scattered clouds occasionally thickening. Winds will shift slightly stronger after midday, blowing from the southeast at 3-4 Beaufort. Temperatures there will range from 13°C to 25°C. Macedonia and Thrace will experience similar conditions, with variable winds picking up over coastal areas. The islands of the Ionian Sea, Epirus, Western Sterea, and Western Peloponnese will have scattered clouds, accompanied by strong southerly winds peaking at 8 Beaufort in some locations. Eastern Sterea, Evia, and Eastern Peloponnese will remain generally sunny until clouds form in the north during the afternoon. The Cyclades and Crete will see clear skies but with strong winds reaching 7 Beaufort in western and northern Crete. The islands of the Eastern Aegean and Dodecanese will also stay clear with moderate winds strengthening in some areas. Thessaly will have light cloud cover with southerly winds intensifying on the Sporades after midday.
