Concern among residents was sparked by three consecutive earthquakes that occurred Friday morning (April 25) in the province of Kütahya in western Turkey, just 24 hours after a major 6.2-magnitude earthquake struck Istanbul and dozens of aftershocks followed. The strongest of the three quakes, measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale, hit at 10:20 AM with its epicenter in the Simav region of Kütahya province at a depth of 12.17 kilometers, according to Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD). A few hours before this quake, at 07:23 AM, a tremor measuring 4.5 magnitude had already occurred in the same area, with a focal depth of 8.8 kilometers. Shortly afterward, at 07:29 AM, another tremor of 3.9 magnitude was felt at a depth of 11.6 kilometers. Kütahya Governor Musa Işık announced there were no casualties or property damage. He also stated that schools in the surrounding area would be closed for one day. Seismologist Ali Ilker Bulut told CNN Turk that these earthquakes are not related to the 6.2-magnitude quake in Istanbul.
