Three Earthquakes Hit Southern Crete Within Minutes: Largest Measured 3.9 Magnitude

Three earthquakes—measuring 3.0, 3.9, and 3.8 on the Richter scale—struck southern Crete on Friday afternoon, February 6, 2025. All occurred within minutes of each other in the sea off the Lasithi regional unit. The first quake hit at 19:23 local time with a magnitude of 3.0, a focal depth of 11.8 km, and its epicenter located 17 km offshore from Chrysí, Lasithi. The second, stronger tremor followed seconds later at 19:32, registering 3.9 magnitude, 11.3 km depth, and centered offshore of Ierapetra. The third struck nine minutes later at 19:41, measuring 3.8 magnitude, with a shallower focal depth of 7.2 km and an epicenter 23 km southeast of Chrysí. No injuries or damage have been reported.
