Thomas Morg: ‘PAOK Chapter Not Closed, I’ll Stay in Greece After Career’

Austrian midfielder Thomas Morg was forced to leave PAOK on loan last January but has not closed the door on a return. After a year as a key player for PAOK, winning the league title and being a regular starter, Morg found himself out of the team this season and moved to Saudi Arabia’s Al Kalita, where he plays under Greek coach Giorgos Donis. Despite his current situation, Morg revealed in an interview with ’90minuten.at’ that his mind remains in Thessaloniki and he is ready to return for pre-season in the summer of 2025. He discussed the challenges of leaving PAOK, adapting to life in Saudi Arabia, and his future plans which may include staying in Greece post-retirement.

Morg explained how unexpected circumstances led to his departure from PAOK. The club’s performance issues, coupled with new signings, left him without a place in the European squad. While difficult, he ultimately chose Saudi Arabia over Turkey due to better opportunities and discussions with his coach. Life in Saudi Arabia has been an adjustment, especially during Ramadan, but Morg appreciates the experience and enjoys reconnecting with former colleagues like Kostas Fortounis and Dimitris Kourbelis.

Looking ahead, Morg acknowledges uncertainty about his future but expresses openness to returning to PAOK if conditions align. Moreover, he envisions potentially settling in Greece after his career ends, emphasizing the comfort and stability his family found there.
