The weapon used by the 49-year-old man in the shooting attack on EUP officers was found today, Thursday (05.06.25) by police. According to reports, it was located in a field near where the jeep he was driving when he opened fire on the EUP officers had been found last week in Evosmos, Thessaloniki. The 49-year-old, who has been arrested and is being prosecuted for attempted murder, illegal firearm possession, and use, reportedly claimed that he didn’t realize they were EUP personnel, stating that he acted out of fear, believing he was threatened by individuals linked to Turkey’s regime. He was apprehended last Saturday in the village of Kato Vrysina in mountainous Rhodope while allegedly planning to flee to Bulgaria. Meanwhile, new arrests of Turks are underway, with police conducting searches in homes in Kavala, Xanthi, and Komotini. So far, one person has been arrested for drugs in Komotini, with authorities preparing to bring in seven more Turks. Five have been brought to Alexandroupolis, one to Komotini, and one to Kavala.
