Thessaloniki: Tracking Down Turkish Mafia Members Who Attacked Greek Agents

in

The trail of mobile phones and their contacts have come under scrutiny by both analysts and police to locate and apprehend the three Turkish mafia members who fired four shots at Greek agents in Thessaloniki on Tuesday afternoon. The agents, using two cars and a motorcycle, were reportedly surveilling the Turks’ movements while also gathering information about them. It’s believed they had accessed details of the suspects’ phone devices. According to reliable sources, these individuals are part of the notorious Dalton gang, which dominates organized crime in Turkey, led by Baris Bogun, recently arrested in Italy. The trio entered Greece claiming political asylum as Gulenists and have been periodically monitored by authorities. Analysts from Greece’s equivalent of the FBI believe it is challenging for the three fugitives to have escaped the country undetected. Two scenarios are being considered: either they fled Thessaloniki immediately after realizing they were being pursued by Greek security forces or they went into hiding within the city, possibly altering the vehicle’s license plates. Six other members of the same gang have been arrested by Greek authorities, and this case raises concerns over why the European Public Prosecutor’s Office conducted surveillance without informing local police.
