Thessaloniki: Successful Liver Transplant for 19-Year-Old After Organ Donation from 12-Year-Old

A successful liver transplant was performed on a 19-year-old at the Hippocrates Hospital in Thessaloniki. The organ donation came from the parents of a 12-year-old boy who tragically lost his life in the Arachthos River. The recipient, suffering from chronic liver disease, received the liver following a procedure that concluded successfully around 8:30 PM on Tuesday (176.06.2025). “The condition of the 19-year-old is good, even though only two hours have passed since he left the operating room,” stated Professor George Tsoufas, director of the Transplantation Clinic at Hippocrates Hospital, to APE-MPE. Meanwhile, the health of a 32-year-old from Alexandroupolis, who received a kidney from a 14-year-old who lost his life trying to save the 12-year-old, is also progressing smoothly.
