Thessaloniki: New Video Shows Spanish ‘Samurai’ Attack at Local Tavern

A new video document has emerged from the attack by a 64-year-old Spanish ‘samurai’ wielding a sword on a 45-year-old individual inside a tavern in the Ambelokipoi area of Thessaloniki, Greece. The footage obtained by newsit.gr spans 3.5 minutes and captures the immediate aftermath of the assault attempt on the tavern’s owner. The elderly man, who appeared with a sword inside the establishment yesterday evening (June 23, 2025), began to harass customers. Fortunately, officers from the Department of Crime Prevention and Suppression swiftly intervened and arrested him. In the newly released footage, the suspect is seen holding the sword while an officer jumps on him, attempting to disarm him. Subsequently, three other EL.AS officers surround the man who has fallen to the ground, and together they manage to disarm him. The sword was temporarily handed over to a tavern employee until handcuffs were placed on the suspect, after which it was retrieved by the police. Formal charges have been filed against the Spanish national for attempted grievous bodily harm and violation of firearms laws. He remains in custody as his trial, initially scheduled for today, has been postponed until tomorrow.
