Thessaloniki: New Trial Delay for Spanish Samurai – ‘I Don’t Know Where He Is’, Says Lawyer

The trial of the so-called Spanish samurai has been postponed once again, this time to November 14, 2025, due to the absence of a key witness—the individual who was nearly injured during the incident. Additionally, the Spanish defendant himself failed to appear in court today. The confrontation reportedly began when a 45-year-old man attempted to remove him from a location, prompting the Spaniard to draw his sword and attempt to stab him.

In an interview with newsit.gr, the defendant’s lawyer, Nikolaos Psathas, stated: ‘Today’s hearing was postponed primarily because the witness, who is considered the victim, did not show up to testify. Neither did the accused appear in court, despite our communication in recent days. I was unable to locate or contact him today by any means. He was certainly in Thessaloniki for several days after the incident, but I no longer know his whereabouts.’

He added, ‘There is no restraining order in place, but he is obligated to attend the scheduled hearing or be represented by me. Due to the language barrier, I haven’t been able to get a clear understanding of the accused. He was traveling through the country on a long road trip in his car, but we still can’t grasp how the situation escalated into what he is being tried for.’

The lawyer emphasized that his client had no intention to harm anyone. ‘From what he told me, the sharp objects found in his car were collectible items. Fortunately, no one was injured during the incident,’ Psathas noted. He also pointed out that while both the accused and the witness were present last week, the lack of a Spanish interpreter prevented the trial from proceeding.

Moreover, the accused could not give a statement to the police or undergo a psychological evaluation at the time of the event. The case continues to raise questions as it moves toward its next scheduled date.
