Police in Thessaloniki have uncovered a new fraud ring that posed as employees of Greece’s national electricity provider, DEDDHE (now part of PPC S.A.), stealing cash, gold sovereigns, and jewelry worth more than €150,000.
Fraudsters Used Fake Identities to Gain Trust
The suspects targeted unsuspecting victims in eastern Thessaloniki, impersonating insurance agents, accountants, or DEDDHE staff. Using various pretexts—including fake inspections or billing disputes—they gained access to homes and convinced victims to hand over valuables.
Three Cases Solved, Three Suspects Identified
Authorities investigated three separate fraud incidents that occurred in February and March. The perpetrators were identified as two men—aged 23 and 56—and a 33-year-old woman. A criminal file has been filed against all three.
According to the Hellenic Police, the group stole a total of €8,220, $10,000 USD, three British gold sovereigns, and gold and jewelry valued at €130,000—bringing the overall haul above €150,000.
