Over €4,000 was stolen from a business safe in Thessaloniki on Saturday, 20 June 2026, by four young people. Police launched an immediate manhunt to locate the suspects — and have since arrested two of them. Investigations into the whereabouts of the other two remain ongoing.
The Break-In
The theft occurred late Saturday night when the two arrested individuals, along with two other youths, entered a grocery store in the Analipsi district of Thessaloniki. Initially, they engaged the store employee in conversation to distract him. Seizing the opportunity, they broke into the business office, forced open the safe, and stole €4,040 in cash as well as an employee’s handbag. They then fled the scene.
Arrest After Chase
After the employee filed a police report, authorities began tracking the suspects. On Sunday evening, officers spotted the two men driving a car near Diavata. When they attempted to evade a police checkpoint by accelerating and entering a residential area, officers pursued and successfully stopped and arrested them.
Recovered Funds and Charges
Police recovered and seized €1,167 from the suspects’ possession — funds later returned to the business. A criminal case has been filed against the two for theft and obstruction of justice by the Harilaou–Analipsi Crime Investigation Department.
Authorities also confirmed that the 23-year-old suspect has two outstanding convictions for theft, carrying a combined prison sentence of 12 months.
