The fatal traffic accident in Thessaloniki that claimed the life of a 15-year-old athlete has taken a dramatic turn. A 48-year-old man presented himself to authorities but claims he was not behind the wheel of the garbage truck at the time of the tragedy. Meanwhile, the victim’s father has raised serious doubts about the identity of the person who submitted to an alcohol test — suggesting the man who gave blood may not be the same person who was actually driving the vehicle.

Conflicting Accounts Emerge

According to reports by SKAI, the 48-year-old insists he had no involvement in the crash that killed Anna Maria, the teenage athlete. He alleges he was merely passing through the area at the time and did not collide with any vehicle — which is why he continued driving. He says he later returned the garbage truck to the depot and went home to sleep.

He claims his wife woke him up to inform him that police were searching for him — based on GPS data from the vehicle indicating it had been at the crash site. Only then did he go to the traffic police station and submit a blood sample for an alcohol test.

Father’s Doubts Deepen Investigation

Speaking to Alpha TV, the girl’s father voiced strong skepticism: “Someone else was driving the garbage truck, and someone else went to give blood and report to the police. Then that same person said, ‘I wasn’t involved in the accident.’” His remarks underscore growing concerns about accountability and transparency in the case.

Crucially, the father confirmed that a surveillance camera is installed above the crash site — footage from which is expected to clarify exactly what happened, including the moment the garbage truck driver left the scene.
