A 57-year-old English teacher from Thessaloniki died last Saturday (7 March 2026) from a stroke. Prior to her death, she had filed an official complaint with the Ministry of Education and the Thessaloniki and Central Macedonia Directorate of Secondary Education, detailing extreme bullying she said she endured from students.
Physical Attacks and Verbal Abuse
Among the incidents she described was one in early February 2026, when a student threw an open plastic bottle filled with chocolate milk at her — drenching her clothes. On another occasion, while she was writing on the board, students hurled a water-filled bottle and a heavy textbook at her back. She noted that such actions could have caused serious physical injury, particularly given her pre-existing fracture of the sacrum.
She also reported repeated verbal abuse, aggressive behavior, and threats to her physical safety from a specific group of students.
Proposed Safety Measures
In her complaint, the teacher recommended urgent measures to improve school safety, including the presence of two police officers during school hours, the installation of body scanners and X-ray systems at entrances to screen incoming items, and the continuous availability of a school psychologist — to help prevent, monitor, and manage such incidents more effectively.
She stated that the situation had severely undermined her personal dignity and, in some cases, endangered her physical safety — urging immediate intervention from the relevant education authorities to resolve what she described as an extremely distressing, alarming, and ultimately dangerous environment.
