in

A criminal investigation has been launched against a 36-year-old man arrested on May 7 for his involvement in the explosion that occurred last Saturday, which tragically claimed the life of a 38-year-old woman. The public prosecutor has charged him with forming and joining a criminal organization, causing an explosion endangering human life, possession and manufacture of explosives, destruction of property, and violating gun laws. He has been remanded in custody until further legal proceedings. Prior to his arrest, police conducted searches in four houses across Attica, eventually locating the suspect in an apartment in Piraeus where he was staying with a friend. Identified as Konstantinos Michalitsianos, his details were released following a court order. Allegedly, he rented the apartment from which the 38-year-old departed before being fatally injured by a bomb placed outside a bank branch at the intersection of Agiou Dimitriou and Platonos streets. Despite being registered as homeless and residing in city housing, records show he rented the apartment through a short-term rental platform along with the victim. High-powered explosives, fireworks, and a small amount of TNT were found in the apartment.
